BATON ROUGE, LA (June 23, 2025) – Gas prices in Baton Rouge increased by six cents last week, bringing the average cost to $2.77 per gallon, according to a new report from GasBuddy.

The rise comes as global tensions continue to escalate in the Middle East. Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, warned that ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran could cause gas prices to jump by 10 to 20 cents, with diesel increasing by as much as 25 cents.

“With the conflict going on and bombs landing on the wrong side of certain borders, the price of oil will tend to uptick. And when it does, then the price of gasoline goes up with it,” said Mike Moncla, president of the Louisiana Oil and Gas Association.

Despite the warning, Moncla noted that Louisiana, and Baton Rouge in particular, remains in a relatively strong position compared to other states. He cited the presence of nearby refineries and the state’s low gas tax as factors helping keep prices down.

“Gasoline remains one of the cheapest liquids you can buy,” Moncla said.

Still, experts say if the geopolitical situation worsens, local drivers should prepare for potential price hikes at the pump in the coming weeks.
