Abstract: Provides qualifications for board appointments for members from Calcasieu Parish.


Present law
vests the governing authority of the Sabine River Authority in a board composed of 13 members.


Present law requires the 13 members of the board be appointed by the governor, one of whom will serve as chairman.


Present law specifies that four members must be residents of Sabine Parish, two members must be residents of Calcasieu Parish, two members must be residents of Vernon Parish, two members must be residents of DeSoto Parish, two members must be residents of Beauregard Parish, and one member must be a resident of Cameron Parish.


Proposed law requires members from Calcasieu Parish meet certain qualifications for appointment on the board. Specifies that one member from Calcasieu Parish must have a primary residence within the Sabine River Watershed area as defined by established parish drainage maps. Further specifies that one member from Calcasieu Parish must have either worked, have working knowledge, or is currently working within an industrial facility that utilizes the Sabine River water system as a source of fresh water.
